Receiving your surgery at the ONJ Centre

Before your operation, you will undergo a number of investigations such as scans and blood tests to assess the type, size and position of the tumour. In preparation for surgery, you will also receive a letter requesting you attend a preadmission clinic to complete a health assessment. You may also need to have a pre-anaesthetic clinic assessment.

Depending on the result of the operation and the extent of the cancer, you may need to have radiation therapy or chemotherapy once the surgical wound has healed. Surgery for cancer is performed in either the Austin Hospital's Surgery and Endoscopy Centre, or at The Surgery Centre at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

• Orthopaedic surgery (musculoskeletal surgery, such as hip and knee replacements)

• Paediatric surgery (surgery on children)
• Plastic and reconstructive surgery
• Urology (surgery of the kidneys, urinary tract and male reproductive system)
• Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery (surgery to the upper gastrointestinal organs, such as the mouth and oesophagus) & Endocrine Surgery (surgery to hormone-producing organs).
